Breakfast nook built-in bench

It worked!!

I am so thrilled with how this project turned out. If you missed my previous post, I was attempting to create a cozy eating corner with stock cabinetry. Well friends, I did it! And I love how it turned out! It was a fairly simple project aside from a few tricky cuts we had to make, but thank goodness I have the help of my Dad.

Eventually, I will get custom cushions made for the tops

I had to style it with pillows I had on hand for the time being, but eventually I will add a cushion and some other pillows dedicated just for this space. The kids love how it turned out and now we can fit a lot more booties around that table when we host parties. I am just so happy with how this came together.

I decided to angle the corner

By angling the corner, we created more usable seating space with our round table. I may eventually pick up a larger table, but for the meantime this works well. A straight L shaped bench would have left an awkward space that wasn’t as functional for us.

Paint color

Can we just take a moment to look at those side cuts Dad had to make. I’ve got a lot of learning to do to catch up with him. I did end up painting it Techno Gray by Sherwin Williams. It was a toss up between that or Snowbound (my wall color), but I thought this would tie in nicely with our kitchen island since it is also Techno Gray. The stain is a mixture of three different stains that I created in my barn from leftover sample stains. I love to use what I have on hand to avoid going to the store… I can’t be the only one. haha.

Did you catch that peeper?

Oh my gosh. Can you see Daisy telling me it’s time for breakfast?

Alright friends, I’ll be back with a detailed post on everything else I used, but I just couldn’t wait to share this project with you any longer.

XOXO,

Brittany

Looks amazing. I love your home so very much. I would love to have one just like it on the water. I’ve always wanted to live on the lake or a beach 😁. Guess I would have to leave these beautiful Great Smoky Mountains to do that though l😂. Another job well done girl.👏👏

I love the benches! I’m really a fan of the large corner area too as you can always leave pillows there or a basket with faux plants or a Christmas tree or…. The possibilities are endless! I am also a fan of them without cushions. I think it ties in beautifully with the island and as long as the kids are young, you won’t have to mess with them spilling or wiping their hands on them. You could also use them for plants, or whatever else you choose. I wouldn’t do anything more, they are fabulous!

It looks amazing!! So cozy and functional! 🤍

  58. Angela says:

Love it!!! How did you get the end piece to match up with the modeling etc???

    • Brittany Smith says:

Hi! I’m assuming you mean the existing molding? My dad just cut the board out so it would alide right up against it. I didn’t want to cut up my baseboards since I wasn’t sure this would be a permanent seating arrangement. If yours will be permanent, it’s a lot easier to take out the baseboard and shoe mold.
